I saw the Taj Mahal in the United States of America. Actually it was Trump Taj Mahal- Atlantic City's answer to the Indian wonder of the world...
Atlantic city. By night. Though certainly not Las Vegas, it was an experience by itself. It is a gaming city but on a smaller scale. As expected, it is the casinos which are the heart and the pulse of the city. At the fringes of the city, there are huge lots where hundreds of cars are parked. It is from there, that vans and buses are sent from the many casinos to lure the gamblers to the stakes. No efforts or expenses are spared to court the gamblers and coax them into risking their wealth at the fickle roll of the dice. The way it works is that one can get unimaginably luxurious suites in the gambling houses for dirt cheap- as low as thirty bucks. And wait- theres more- alchohol is free folks. i guess its takes a drunk to be a loser.
As such, Atlantic city is a dwarfed place compared to Manhattan, which is lined by sky scrapers which make u forget what the sky might look like. Instead i would define Atlantic city as a cacophony of lights. The casinos dotted against the skyline almost looked like a toy board- an electric display- so unreal were the shining lights. Almost all the casinos sported some theme. Perhaps the most magnificent was the 'Trump Taj Mahal' fashioned like its namesake- the Taj Mahal- with pillars, and domes and marble elephants no less. Another one was called 'Sands' and this one was real gizmo. it looked like something out of Jetsons meets Star Wars. Yet another was built like a roman cathedral, named- what else- 'Ceasars'. Huge stautes of men reminiscent of old Rome guard the exteriors of this casino.
The roads in this city are small and narrow as if they are overwhelmed by the long and splendid stretch limos cruising around the city. So many limos, black or white in colour and impossibly long, lined with yet more lights. Pawnshops flash neon lights garishly proclaiming "Cash in change of Gold" everywhere you look. It was enough to make my head spin. The grandeur and splendour of the casinos, even when glimpsed from outside, have to be seen to be believed.
The whole city looks exactly like it is- a deliciously sinful place. Although, i do not condone the decadent lifestyle it stands for, i was fascinated by this oppulent glimpse of... of... of... of Atlantic city
